Overview
The Elevated Spaces Residency is a bi-annual offering of time and space at our property in the redwoods of the Santa Cruz Mountains. Artists will have privacy of our land and cabin, entirely to themselves, to pursue their projects. Two weeks in the spring, or two weeks in the fall.
The cabin is basic. Similar in size and supply to an alpine mountain hut. There's solar/battery power, but not much of it. Outside, there's a comfortable outhouse, a heated outdoor shower, and a small A-frame that can be used as a studio. It's not quite camping, but not far removed from it—with few distractions, just enough creature comforts, and ample nature to inspire. Town is a 15 minute drive down the hill and artists will need to have a car to access and resupply their stay. You can find more details and a brief tour of the property here.
The land is 10 acres of steep and thickly wooded redwood, oak, madrone, and fir. The area holding our cabin, and associated structures and paths, encompasses about 2 acres.
We are offering a two week block of time to artists, the exact time of which is negotiable depending on the project and artist's needs.
While there is no specific guidance on the types of art and exploration we hope artists might pursue, when detailing what you’ve done in the past, and what you plan to create, applicants should also answer the question: "Why here?"
